Pastor’s Words

July 7th, 2015 by Kali Lewis

It is more and more apparent, with the world situation the way it is, that Christians are not afraid to take a stand on the faith that has been passed down to us from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Neil Anderson says it right when he makes this statement, “The secular world view says that we make something true by believing it.  That is false.  We cannot create reality with our minds; only God can do that.  Our responsibility is to face reality and choose to believe what God says is true.  True Biblical faith, therefore, is choosing to believe and act upon what is true, because God has said it is truth, and He is the Truth.”

It has been difficult for me to try to understand the senseless killing in Charleston, South Carolina.  When I get to feeling this way, I turn to Scripture.  I have listed a few of my favorite Scriptures that may help you when you are feeling down:

  • Psalm 27:1: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
  • Psalm 138:3: “In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.”
  • Matthew 19:26: “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
  • 2 Corinthians 4:16: “Therefore we do not lose heart.  Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”
  • Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
  • 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
  • John 14:6: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”
  • Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”
  • Ephesians 1:3-14: (paraphrase; check this passage out as it is so encouraging) He blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…He chose us…He predestined us…He redeemed us through His blood…He made known to us the mystery of His will…we have obtained an inheritance…and we have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, as we have believed in Christ for our salvation.
  • Romans 8:37-39: (paraphrase)  But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us…nothing can separate us from the love of Christ, nothing!
  • I hope you are able to find peace, love, joy, and hope in these few verses or others, and the only way to find other verses is to read the Word of God. It never gets old.
